Vanessa Sandor, LCSW, CASAC

Licensed Clinical Social Worker and NYS Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor that believes the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of effective treatment. Collaboration and the invitation of sharing experiences is key. I believe that everyone has the opportunity to explore, grow, and change, if they choose to. Life can be challenging for us all at times. Treatment is an opportunity to navigate how to cope with those challenges together. Treatment is an opportunity to take care of ourselves in the best way possible. Whatever that may mean or look like for you. During our time together, I'll invite you to participate in in-session skill practice. Together we'll practice skills and techniques shown to be effective, but you'll have the choice to tailor these skills to fit you and your specific situations. We learn in the richest environments. My treatment approach is robust and rooted in research.

I have 20 years of experience in a variety of clinical settings. I have experience in Inpatient Rehabilitation, Detoxication - Withdrawal and Stabilization Services, Supportive Living environments, Outpatient Services, and have participated in delivering treatment in a number of clinical trials at The University at Buffalo's Research Institute on Addictions. I've also worked in settings where I've participated in developing and overseeing clinical programming and policy implementation and oversight. I am trained in a variety of evidence-based treatment modalities: CBT, DBT, mindfulness training, solution-focused treatment, emotion regulation training (direct experiencing of emotion), relapse prevention, motivational interviewing, breathwork - including diaphragmatic and coherent breathing techniques, Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) - tapping, mindful movement, grounding techniques, to name a few. Bottom-up interventions - somatic/body-based and mindfulness approaches are primarily offered which are rooted neuroscience and research. If you choose to work with me, I am confident you'll find the support you need to help you figure out what's next for you and perhaps help you begin to feel better.
